Short story by Edgar Allan Poe. The story recounts Prince Prospero's attempts to avoid a dangerous epidemic known as the Red Death by hiding in a monastery and then holding a masquerade ball with several other nobles within the seven rooms of the monastery, each decorated in a different colour. In the midst of the festivities, a mysterious figure disguised as a victim of the Red Death makes its way into all the rooms. Prospero dies after encountering this stranger, who turns out to be nothing inside his costume. The guests die in turn, one by one, too.
