The events of the novel The Stranger take place in a monotonous manner by presenting the past with slow daily movements... The feeling of the protagonist Meursault that his consciousness is dry and boring, to reinforce this mechanism in the novel, so that he said more than once "things are the same to me", and this monotony known to us all is often accompanied by things that must be done unconsciously, such as eating and drinking.
Despite the hero's loss of his mother, who he stays up every night with, he was not overcome by the usual feeling of sadness or grief, and even his love for Marie - one of the characters in the novel - did not help him get out of this stagnation and lethargy.
Although the hero of Camus's novel was sentenced to death for killing an Arab, absurdity and indifference remained the essence and basis of the novel from beginning to end.
